The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (MDOT SHA) is organizing a series of six public workshops in February and March. These workshops aim to inform community groups, local governments, nonprofits, school districts, transportation authorities, and other entities about available grant opportunities. The grants focus on improving bicycle and pedestrian access, supporting transit-oriented development, enhancing freight rail safety, reducing transportation emissions, and promoting tree-planting initiatives across the state.

The workshops will cover various programs including the Transportation Alternatives/Safe Routes to School Program, Recreational Trails Program, Kim Lamphier Bikeways Network Program, Maryland Highway Safety Office grants, Emissions Reduction Program, Freight Rail Grant Program, Transit-Oriented Development Capital Grant and Revolving Loan Fund, MDOT Urban Tree Program, and Federal Discretionary Grants.

Workshop sessions are scheduled from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at different locations: Greater Salisbury Committee Office on February 25; Cecil County Planning Division Building on February 27; La Plata Town Hall on March 4; City of Hyattsville Municipal Building on March 6; Banneker Community Center on March 11; and Allegany Museum on March 13. Each session has an inclement weather date.

Following the presentations on each grant opportunity, MDOT SHA staff will assist attendees with the application process and discuss matching funding requirements. Registration is required via https://bit.ly/MDOTSHA-2025-Grants-Workshops-RSVP.

In case of adverse weather conditions leading to cancellations or delays in county public school activities or if a county snow emergency plan is active, the workshop will be rescheduled for its inclement weather date. Registered participants will be notified of any changes.
