Steny Hoyer, a longstanding U.S. Congress member representing Maryland's 5th District since 1981, recently addressed the state of the nation and public services through a series of tweets. Hoyer, born in New York City in 1939, has a history in the Maryland House of Representatives and holds degrees from the University of Maryland and Georgetown University.

On April 30, 2025, Hoyer commented on the early months of Donald Trump's presidency, asserting, "Trump’s 100 days have left Americans less prosperous, less safe, and less hopeful about the direction of our country." Hoyer directed his audience to listen to Leader Rep. Jeffries for a detailed exposition of his statement.

Continuing on the same day, Hoyer joined a discussion with the House Appropriations Committee Democrats on Twitter concerning the Trump Administration’s plans to privatize the U.S. Postal Service. He tweeted, "Join me & @AppropsDems as we discuss how the Trump Admin's efforts to privatize @USPS threatens this extraordinary service...” Hoyer emphasized the importance of mail service for delivering essential items like critical documents and medication.

Later in the day, Hoyer highlighted concerns about proposed cuts to Medicaid, stating "Cuts to Medicaid would decimate emergency services, raise costs, and diminish reliable health care in the nation's capital." Alongside Rep. Eleanor Norton and Sen. Chris Van Hollen, he led a letter condemning the impact of these cuts on the region.

Steny Hoyer continues to advocate for issues affecting the constituents of Maryland's 5th District and the broader U.S. population, building on his decades-long legislative career.
