Steny Hoyer, the current U.S. Congressman representing Maryland’s 5th district, has taken to social media to share a series of announcements and reflections. Representative Hoyer, who has served in Congress since 1981 and has a longstanding career in Maryland state politics, addressed a range of topics from art to economic concerns and cultural observations in his recent tweets.

On May 1, 2025, Hoyer congratulated Cynclair Wilson for her achievement in the Congressional Art Competition. In his tweet, he stated, "Congratulations to #MD05's Congressional Art Competition winner - Cynclair Wilson! Cynclair's winning piece 'Ancestral Wisdom' is a profound tribute to her ancestors & identity as an African American woman. I look forward to seeing it in the Capitol complex."

The following day, on May 2, 2025, Hoyer commented on recent economic developments, expressing concern over economic shrinkage and market performance. He noted, "The April #jobsreport comes amid news this week that our economy shrank for first time since the end of the pandemic. Costs continue to go up, the stock market continues to fall, and Americans’ confidence in their economy continues to erode."

Also on May 2, 2025, Hoyer addressed the issue of antisemitism and affirmed his commitment to recognizing Jewish American Heritage Month. He conveyed, "As we witness growing antisemitism and violence toward the Jewish community, I stand proud to observe Jewish American Heritage Month. Let us continue to celebrate Jews’ vibrant culture & history as we work every day to ensure the liberty and security of Jews globally."

Steny Hoyer has served in Congress since 1981, succeeding Gladys Spellman and previously held positions in the Maryland House of Representatives and the Maryland State Senate. He holds degrees from the University of Maryland and Georgetown University Law Center.
