On May 22, 2025, Hoyer criticized fiscal policies by stating that "Adding $3.3 trillion in debt over ten years is not fiscal responsibility." He argued against giving tax breaks to the wealthy while cutting Medicaid, labeling it as part of what he calls the "GOP Tax Scam."

Later that day, Hoyer condemned Republican actions regarding healthcare legislation. He tweeted that "Republicans betrayed the American people by passing this abhorrent legislation." According to him, this move resulted in taking healthcare away from 13.7 million people.

In another tweet on the same day, Hoyer addressed former President Trump's acceptance of a luxury jet from Qatar. He asserted that "Trump's acceptance of a luxury jet from Qatar is an abuse of power." This action was described as violating constitutional laws and undermining national security.

Hoyer has served in Congress since 1981 after replacing Gladys Spellman and has been involved in state politics since his time in the Maryland State Senate from 1967 to 1975. Born in New York City in 1939, he holds degrees from both the University of Maryland and Georgetown University Law Center.
