Steny Hoyer, a long-serving member of the U.S. Congress representing Maryland's 5th district since 1981, has recently shared his views on pressing issues via social media. Hoyer, who has a distinguished career in public service, having served in both the Maryland House of Representatives and State Senate before his tenure in Congress, addressed topics ranging from fiscal policy to community safety.

On May 22, 2025, Hoyer criticized the timing and content of a Republican tax bill process. He stated that "Republicans began marking up their tax scam at 1 AM. They are now voting to send it to the Floor at 11 PM — all without seeing the light of day." He expressed concern over the bill's potential impact, claiming it would cut healthcare for nearly 14 million Americans, reduce SNAP benefits significantly, and increase the national deficit. He concluded by lamenting what he described as "a sad day for America."

In another post made on May 22, 2025, Hoyer emphasized the importance of safety for Jewish communities worldwide. He asserted that "Jews must be able to gather safely everywhere—including here in our nation’s capital, across the country, and around the world."

Additionally, on May 22, 2025, Hoyer expressed his alarm regarding an antisemitic attack at the Capital Jewish Museum in Washington D.C. As a resident of the National Capital Region himself, he voiced his concern by stating: "As a resident of the National Capital Region, I am deeply alarmed and angered by the antisemitic attack at the Capital Jewish Museum here in DC." He joined others in praying for victims and condemned such acts of violence.

Born in New York City in 1939 and currently residing in Mechanicsville at age 83, Steny Hoyer is an alumnus of both University of Maryland College Park and Georgetown University Law Center.
