Steny Hoyer, a long-serving member of the U.S. Congress representing Maryland’s 5th district since 1981, has been vocal on various issues through his social media presence. On July 2, 2025, he expressed concerns regarding the allocation of funds intended for people in need. He stated that it would be a disgrace if these contributions were used to support the Administration's priorities, such as tax breaks for billionaires. Hoyer directed attention to an article by @IndSector discussing how the "Big, Ugly Bill" could negatively impact charitable giving. "It would be a disgrace if meaningful contributions for people in need will be used to fund the Administration's priorities, including their tax breaks for billionaires."

On July 3, 2025, Hoyer highlighted public opposition to proposed healthcare cuts by former President Trump. He emphasized that Democratic Leader @RepJeffries is ensuring Republicans hear stories from those affected before voting on measures that could remove coverage from 17 million Americans. "The American people have spoken out against Trump’s cuts to health care for months."

Later that day, Hoyer commented on the latest #JobsReport, attributing economic challenges to Republican policies favoring tax cuts for the wealthy. He criticized Trump's policies for reducing good-paying jobs and increasing costs for Americans. "Today's #JobsReport shows that Republicans' efforts to give the wealthy another tax cut have had direct consequences on our economic future."

Hoyer's background includes serving in both the Maryland House of Representatives and State Senate before joining Congress in 1981. Born in New York City in 1939 and now residing in Mechanicsville, he holds degrees from the University of Maryland and Georgetown University Law Center.
