Steny Hoyer, U.S. Congressman representing Maryland’s 5th district since 1981, has recently posted several updates on his official social media account regarding both personal and legislative matters.

Two days later, on July 16, 2025, Hoyer highlighted an event marking a significant milestone in disability rights legislation. He wrote: "In honor of the #ADA's 35th anniversary, I'm proud to host a screening & panel on 'Change, Not Charity: The Americans with Disabilities Act', which captures our fight to ensure every aspect of American life is accessible to all. Later that same day, Hoyer reported a diplomatic meeting focused on international cooperation and support for Ukraine. He stated: "Great to meet with @EUAmbUS Jovita Neliupšienė and discuss our shared values of freedom and democracy globally. I look forward to our work together to ensure Ukraine continues to receive the support it needs to win this war and to strengthen the U.S. and EU's partnership."
Hoyer has represented Maryland’s 5th District in Congress since succeeding Gladys Spellman in 1981. Before his tenure in Congress, he served in both the Maryland House of Representatives and State Senate from 1967 to 1975. Born in New York City in 1939 and currently residing in Mechanicsville at age 83, Hoyer holds degrees from the University of Maryland and Georgetown University Law Center.
